The sword martial art has developed along with 5,000 years of history of the Korean race and the use of the sword (Kumsul and Kumbup) has been designed. Its usefulness began to be recognized and turned into a multi-functional martial art of guardianship, survival and self-training.

 

1. Preface

Haedong Kumdo is made up of using sword, cutting off, fighting, breathing, etc. It has been developed by many swordsmen and trainers.

Now there are many branches which are trying to develop this field continually in Korea.
It's more important to make it well qualified than to gather more people. Then people of all ages can enjoy their training more than before.

These kinds of sword training will be able to perform on stages, practice in the mountains or riversides as well as in the gyms. Frequent and easy contacts with sword training will make more trainees notice that they will have lots of benefit spiritually and physically.


Since early 1980's, Haedong Kumdo Gyms have been popular as nation wide sports. There almost became about 1,000 gyms and lots of clubs in most schools and offices. There are also several branches abroad including in the United States, Canada, Australia.

2. Basic mind of Haedong Kumdo

3. What's that?

It is literally translated into "the original Korean sword techniques."
It's the traditional Kumdo for real battles, totally different from Jukdo (using sword made bamboo) sports and Guhapdo, which were imported from Japan.

The trainers of Haedong Kumdo use real sword which weigh 1.0-1.2kg;
they drill in a traditional way by unifying Gumbub(the training to get used to the sword), Gyukgum(the training to accquire the skill of cut and thrust),
Begi(the training to learn the skill of cutting straw or bamboo,paper.etc.), Hoheubbub(abdominal breathing),etc.

The techniques of our sword is not only one of most important skills for fighting.
but also a drill for defending oneself and defeating opponents.

By improving physical strength,
one can exercise endurance.
By practicing the constant changes of subtle acts,
the posture become refined
and cultivates one's mind into a noble state of one's spiritual and physical balance, physical fitness.

4. Chacteristis

1) you can cope with dangerous situations. It's orthodox self-defense when you meet dangerous situation.

make you fitness level increase and risk of disease decrease through training of Haedong Kumdo, etc.
because we have a new method of physical and mental training.
We cultivate one's physical capabilities and develop a strong spirit.
